Pitru Dosh -2

My 2026 started with the completion of a Pitru Dosh Pooja.

It was a sequence of events born out of the persistent insistence of the elders in my family, and we performed this pooja.

Throughout the pooja I was merely observing and trying to absorb, understand the essence of this difficult ritual, and offering.

I am now studying about this pooja and sharing my understanding!

The phrase Pitru Dosh when split to two parts; "Pitru" means forefather and Dosh means any negative effect, bad karma, that is created by ancestors who have committed wrongdoing in their lifetime. Any person whose forefathers have committed any crime, mistakes, or sins has Pitru Dosh in their horoscope.

So, until this karmic debt is not repaid, and the forefathers are not appeased, this Pitru dosh is reflected in the lives of the family members. Pitru Dosh can be attributed to three major causes:

Effects of the planets: One’s horoscope reveals the planetary position at their birth, and if certain planets are in certain houses, they are said to have Pitru Dosh.

Deeds of ancestors: The astrologer (like nadi jyotish) looks at the horoscope and reveals the deeds, misdeeds of the forefathers! Even the deeds and misdeeds by the person concerned in their past life, lives.

One's own Karma: The family members fail to adhere to the basic requirements of yearly rituals for their ancestors. Or they fail to look after aged in their family, people and leave them to fend for themselves.

So, Pitru Dosh is a debt of the ancestors in the past life and is to be paid by the person having Pitru Dosh in their horoscope. It is strongly believed that performing this pooja releases us from all the ancestor's bad karma, sins and frees us from all their bindings.

People with Pitru Dosh tend to have dreams of ancestors asking for food or clothes. Also, if any family member sees the snakes' dreams, it hints towards having Pitru Dosh.

We performed the pooja because my horoscope (horror scope is what I call it😊!) revealed that I have Pitru Dosh; suggesting it was one reason I was facing hurdles in the recent past!
